SIA signs code sharing agreement with Alaska Airlines

Its designator code will be available on routes with 37 destinations.

Singapore Airlines (SIA) inks a codeshare agreement on flights operated by Alaska Airlines, in a move to expand SIA in North America.

According to a press release, SIA will add its SQ designator code to Alaska Airline's flights on routes serving 18 destinations in the US and to Mexico.

The code will also be added to Virgin America's flight routes for 19 destinations within the US. Virgin America was acquired by Alaska Air Group in 2016.

Members of both airlines' frequent flyer programmes, KrisFlyer and Mileage Plan, will also be able to earn miles during travels with the two carriers. This will start on 27 September 2017.

SIA senior vice president marketing planning Tan Kai Ping said, "Our new partnership with Alaska Airlines enables us to improve connectivity between Singapore and the important North American market, providing customers with more codeshare destination and enhanced KrisFlyer benefits."

Codeshare flights will be progressively available through SIA's booking channels.
