SIA taps SITA for mobile app improvement

Passengers can now access range of digital magazines through SIA mobile app.

Singapore Airlines passengers will now be able to get free digital magazines on their devices.

Now being assisted by the communications and IT solutions provider SITA, SIA offers access to free reading materials available to passengers before, during, and after the flight through its official mobile app.

More than supporting the airline's efforts to provide a better passenger experience, the new tech is expected to boost initiatives by SIA to go green and reduce paper production and handling.

SITA said the airline industry loads up to 100,000kg of newspapers and magazines every day with no certainty that they will be read, not to mention the cost in supplying and disposing of the reading materials.

At the same time, 65% of passengers have said they would access entertainment services on their own device whilst 46% would watch a movie on-board using mobile devices.
