Singapore Airlines names Goh Choon Phong new CEO

Singapore Airlines names Goh Choon Phong new CEO

Mr Goh Choon Phong will formally take up the CEO position on 1 January 2011 as Mr Chew Choon Seng is set to retire at the end of December 2010.

Presently the Chairman of SilkAir, Mr Goh has served in senior management positions in Singapore as well as overseas, and is currently Executive Vice President for Marketing and the Regions, having been appointed to the post earlier this year after four years as President of Singapore Airlines Cargo, according to a Singapore Airlines announcement.

Mr Chew said, “Goh Choon Phong is a worthy successor. During his twenty years with SIA, he has worked in various divisions, ranging from Marketing to IT to Finance and Cargo, and demonstrated his versatility and leadership. I am confident that, with the support of all colleagues in SIA and the guidance of the Directors, Choon Phong and the rest of the management team will uphold SIA’s core values, continue to build the business by working hard at satisfying customers and by rising to the challenges of the future, and keep SIA at the forefront of the airline industry. The company will be in good hands.”

The incoming CEO joined SIA in 1990 after graduation from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science as well as three Bachelor degrees, in Computer Science and Engineering, Management Science and Cognitive Science.
