Yongnam Holdings clinches 4th Marina Coastal Expressway contract

Engineering and steel contractor Yong Nam has been awarded the contract for Marina Coastal Expressway, a deal worth S$21.5 million.

The dual five-lane, 5km long expressway will be a strategic underground east-west transport linkbetween three major expressways, catering to the anticipated increase in traffic volume generated by the high-density developments in the Marina Bay area.

Building the structure will be a complex feat, according to a release to the media by Yongnam, as part of the expressway will run underneath the seabed just 150 metres away from the Marina Barrage, which needs to be opened periodically to allow water to flow out during heavy rain.

This is the 4th contract the company has since secured for the expressway, and will total S$283 million worth of contracts. Yongnam will support the main contractor, Samsung C&T Corporation, through the installation and removal of temporary steel strutting and waling works for the wide and deep tunnel excavation. The Contract is targeted for completion by September 2012.

The company’s other infrastructural projects include the Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort and the SkyPark that will sit atop the Marina Bay Sands’ IR Hotel Towers.
