Daily Briefing: Labour shortage poses threat to Singapore economy; Keppel mulls more job cuts as profit slumps

Singapore's central bank Chief Ravi Menon announced early this year that labout shortage was the country's biggest challenge for economic growth. Back in 2014, the recorded number of job vacancies was at a record high. However, recent data showed that the number of vacancies has fallen below the number of jobseekers. Keppel Corporation may have to continue to cut a portions of its workforce as it faces declining profits. It has already slashed 26% of its workforce at its offshore and marine business in the nine months through September. In 3Q16, Keppel saw its earnings drop 38% on weak oil. Read more here.
