Avic bags $3m deal for world's first handysize bulk carrier

It will design two vessels.

Mainboard-listed Avic International Maritime Holdings has inked a deal to design the world's first handysize bulk carrier.

The two vessels will be designed by its subsidiary Deltamarin. The ships will be constructed by the Chinese Qingshan Shipyard for Finnish shipowner ESL Shipping.

Upon delivery, the ships will be the world’s first LNG dual-fuelled handysize bulk carriers, which can be bunkered with gas fuel in various LNG terminals around the Baltic region.

The work will be carried out at Deltamarin’s offices in Finland over an estimated period of 12 months. The vessels are planned to enter the market at the beginning of 2018.
