Polytechnic students to score internships with financial sector heavyweights
Institutions like SGX and DBS are on board.
In a bid to develop the talent pipeline for the burgeoning local financial sector, a SkillsFuture initiative will offer polytechnic and Institute of Technical Education (ITE) students Enhanced Internships in Accountancy and Financial Services in 2016, according to media release by Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP).
NP and ITE, together with Nanyang Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic, inked a Memorandum of Understanding with 16 accounting companies and financial institutions to provide internships to students.
“The companies include Baker Tilly TFW, BDO, Citibank, DBS, Deloitte & Touche, Ernst & Young, Foo Kon Tan, HSBC, KPMG, Mazars, Nexia TS Public Accounting Corporation, OCBC, PricewaterhouseCoopers, RSM Stone Forest, Singapore Exchange and UOB,” stated the media release stated.
Students will undergo longer and structured internships with clear learning outcomes and job prospects. Further, they will be matched with industry mentors who will provide guidance at the workplace, and offer advice on career growth and development opportunities in the industry.
The Enhanced Internships will be rolled out in 2016 for 2,400 ITE and polytechnic students.
