Singapore hosted $352.1b of US direct investments

US companies invested more into Singapore than Japan and China combined.

Singapore hosted $352.1b (US$258.9b) of US multinational companies' (MNCs) direct investments, beating the totals in Japan and China combined.

According to KGI, the US Department of Commerce said Japan hosted $156b (US$114.7b) worth of investments, whilst China received $125.8b (US$92.5b).

US MNCs still invest in factories and offices, though not so much through fresh capital injection.

The book value of US direct investments in the Asia-Pacific region also rose 5.4% from $59b (US$43.4b) in 2015 to a cumulative $1.1t (US$846.7b) in 2016.
