Borderless Healthcare Group launches O2O platform

Expansion into multi-trillion China healthcare market eyed.

Healthcare technology and service provider Borderless Healthcare Group (BHG) has launched an online-offline (O2O) platform allowing interactive video conferencing between patients and healthcare service providers using digital devices.

With the platform, BHG aims to “revolutionise collaborative care” by encouraging multi-disciplinary health experts to work with caregivers and family members who may not be mobile to visit hospitals.

“One can already leverage on the large screen of their Smart TV to allow multiple members in one home to partake in a call discussion with one or more health professionals", said Dr. Wei Siang Yu, chairman and founder of BHG.

"Consumers demand education from all sectors of healthcare providers,” he added, noting that the technology will allow patients to receive interactive consultation within the comforts of their own homes.

Wei, however, cautioned that the platform is not meant to be used for diagnostic or telehealth consulting. “Through post-diagnosis collaborative care, this platform can help reduce miscommunication among patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals,” he added.

Recently, BHG has launched a similar O2O platform called “Smart Health Smart TV” in China, one of the largest healthcare markets in the world. China also offers exponential growth potential due to its demographics—more than 200 million people are over 60 years old, while an estimated 90 million couples have been made eligible for a second child under the recent second child policy.

Many mobile health and internet health portals have sprung up in China but none are interoperable with digital devices, such as computers, smart TVs, smartphones, and the cloud. BHG hopes to harness opportunities within the country’s real estate industry, where many developers are keen to promote smart home development.

To attract Singapore-based doctors and other allied health professionals, BHG has set up a local chapter of its Smart Life Alliance to provide training, integration, and support.
