2 in 3 Singaporeans prefer local activities during overseas travel
25% enjoy local cultural activities.
Two in three Singaporeans prefer to engage in local activities when travelling overseas, implying a desire for "authentic experiences," according to a survey by Tourism New Zealand.
The study conducted by Blackbox Research showed 79% of Singaporeans enjoy trying local food and delicacies whilst on holiday in a different country.
At the same time, 45% of Singaporeans look forward to enjoying the best of a country’s natural scenery and wildlife, whilst 25% find the engagement in local cultural activities as an enjoyable holiday activity.
This indicates that travellers today are seeking a more immersive and off-the-beaten-track type of travel experience, Tourism New Zealand said.
The survey also highlighted the increase in the Singaporean traveller’s preference for alternative travel mode choices. Over 34% of respondents prefer travelling on a local train as the mode of travel while on holiday overseas. This was followed by 23% choosing to self-drive.
