Singaporeans ditch summer travels for December get-aways
They prefer to use their end-of-year bonus.
Singaporean travellers skip the long-haul summer holidays in June, and save them for December, data from Hotels.com showed.
Based on collated search data, travellers in December look further to countries like Japan, with three of the 10 most searched cities including Tokyo, Osaka, and Sapporo.
Meanwhile, most Singaporeans prefer to stay in the country for the summer holidays. The next preference is outdoor travel towards nearby destinations such as Bangkok, Johor Bahru, and Kuala Lumpur.
For June, eight in 10 cities in Southeast Asia comprised the most searched destinations. The other two cities were Hong Kong and Taipei.
Here's more from Hotels.com:
Not only are Singaporeans traveling further at the end of the year, but more Singaporeans are traveling in December compared to the monthly average in summer.
According to statistics from the Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, an average of 720,000 Singaporean residents travelled out of Singapore per month from June to August, whilst close to 1.2 million travelled in the month of December.
For year-end vacations, Singaporeans searched for cities that provide a significant change in climate, with seven out of the 10 most searched cities experiencing the winter season.
Making use of their end-of-year bonus, the extended school holidays and the seasonal festivities, December provides Singaporeans with an opportune time to experience unique destinations for the mid to long-haul trips.
