Shangri-La Hotel Singapore appoints Manfred Weber as General Manager

Mr. Weber will be responsible for the success of the hotel’s daily operations and special projects.

In his new role, Mr. Weber is responsible for the success of the hotel’s daily operations and special projects, such as the renovation of the Garden Wing and launch of Singapore’s first CHI, The Spa. Under Mr. Weber’s charge are more than 1,000 employees, 748 hotel guestrooms across three distinctive wings, 127 units in Shangri-La Apartments and 55 luxurious apartments in Shangri-La Residences.

With 20 years of hospitality experience, Mr. Weber is well poised to helm one of Singapore’s most iconic hotels. Prior to joining Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore, Mr. Weber spent 11 years in Shanghai and Beijing when China’s hospitality industry was on the cusp of unprecedented growth. His wealth of experience with luxury hotel companies, like the Ritz Carlton and Peninsula, was the result of postings in Germany, Saudi Arabia and most recently, China.

“As our group expands, new talents are needed to replace general managers who are now promoted to senior levels. Mr. Weber is a natural choice for Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore since he is proficient in managing similar world-class hotels and discerning clientele with proven track record. I am confident that Mr. Weber will continue to uphold our legacy of Shangri-La hospitality from a caring family. A 40 year old family, at that,” said Mr. Michael Cottan, executive vice president of South-East Asia and the Pacific.

Mr. Weber, who is an Austrian national, started his career in the culinary arts. His hospitality journey began as an apprentice chef in 1987 before he assumed food and beverage management roles from 1993. Mr. Weber is a graduate of the Catering and Hospitality Management College in Bad Gleichenberg, Austria.
