Yes, it's not work-life balance.

According to JobsCentral Work Happiness Indicator, previously ranked third for three consecutive years, ‘Salary’ is now the most important factor to workers followed by ‘Work-life balance’ and ‘Advancement opportunities’ tied at second position.

More than one-fifth (22.5 percent) of employees ranked ‘Salary’ as the most important attribute of a job, giving it the highest score of 8.63 (out of a maximum score of 12) that leads the joint second-ranked attributes at 7.37 points.

The 2012 survey also saw increased importance of work-life balance among Singapore employees.

‘Work-life balance’ climbed 7 spots this year to the second position and was chosen by 13.4 percent of respondents to be their most important work attribute. The most important work attribute in 2011, ‘Advancement opportunities’ slides to 3rd place this year with a score of 7.37.

First launched in 2009, the JobsCentral Work Happiness Indicator is a study to measure how happy Singapore workers are with their jobs.

The 2012 survey has 3,299 respondents and data was collected via an online questionnaire between 20th September and 19th October, 2012. The survey was voluntary and open to all Singapore workers aged 16 years and above. Incomplete and duplicated responses were discarded and do not contribute to this count.

Results of this survey are statistically significant. At a confidence level of 95% and labour force population of over 3.2 million1 in Singapore,the sa mple size has a margin error or confidence interval of 1.71%. This means that we are 95% confident that the results of the survey are reflective of the general population with an error margin of +/- 1.71%.
