Singapore to upgrade talent in the infrastructure sector

Focus areas will include project financing, advisory and engineering.

International Enterprise (IE) Singapore and Workforce Singapore (WSG) launched a programme to train the infrastructure sector's mid-career professionals.

According to a press release, the programme Professional Conversion Programme (PCP) for Global Ready Infrastructure Talent (GRIT) will develop deep skills of Professionals, Managers, Executives and Technicians (PMETs).

Focus areas include infrastructure project financing, project transactional advisory and project engineering for global infrastructure projects.

IE Singapore chief executive officer Lee Ark Boon said, "Singapore must leverage our strengths in planning, engineering, financial and legal services to capture Asia’s tremendous infrastructure opportunities, particularly through the Belt and Road Initiative. However, currently, we do not have enough local talent as project development and structuring is cross-disciplinary and complex."

PCP for GRIT will target people who have already graduated for at least two years and place them in an on-the-job training programme for up to 18 months.

WSG will subsidise up to 70% of new trainees' salary, capped at $4,000.

Currently, there are 30 openings across 12 companies.
