It boasts an automated sun-shading system.
Nestled in bustling Bishan is an unassuming seven-storey building that houses multinational engineering and electronics company Bosch. Although fairly nondescript on the outside, Bosch’s regional headquarters is in fact one of the greenest buildings that Singapore has to offer.
Martin Hayes, President at Robert Bosch South East Asia, told SBR that their innovative headquarters underlines the company’s deep commitment towards supporting green efforts in Singapore.
“This year is as much about looking forward as it is about looking back. We have been around in Singapore since 1923, actively contributing to improving the lives of Singaporeans, and the wider region. However, this year, Bosch’s headquarter will reach just its five-year mark in Singapore. With this building’s 5th year anniversary, we are underlining our firm commitment towards supporting green efforts in Singapore,” he said.
No self-respecting green building will be complete without solar panels, and the Bosch headquarters has that and more. Hayes said that the solar panels on its roof contribute about 3 percent of the entire building’s energy consumption, while the building is also equipped with an automated sun-shading system on its façade.
These exterior blinds reduce cooling requirements of the building’s interior by tracking the sun’s movement throughout the day, and tilting accordingly to shield the building from direct sunlight while still allowing natural light to radiate through.
Energy conservation efforts extend further into motion-detection lighting and lifts that enter into stand-by mode during off-peak timings.
Three electric vehicle charging stations for a total of five charge spots are located within the compound, while three electric vehicles are available to Bosch associates for their business commute around Singapore.
These features caused the building to receive Platinum Green Mark award by the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore.
But Bosch’s headquarters is not all about green efforts cutting-edge technology, Hayes said, especially since striking a good work-life balance is an important aspect of life of Bosch associates.
Apart from a recreation room for foosball and table-tennis, the roof-top garden and conference rooms are transformed after-hours to conduct a variety of exercise classes such as yoga, pilates, kick-boxing, and Zumba.
The Bosch regional headquarters for Southeast Asia is located in 11 Bishan St 21, and houses around 800 associates across its corporate functions and business divisions.
The seven-storey building spans a gross floor area of 20,000 square metres above ground, plus two basement levels for vehicle parking.
