Where to catch Pokemons now a top consideration for Singaporean travellers

Here's their top 10 cities to cath-em all.

Online booking platform Hotels.com research reveals Singaporean holiday priorities when planning for a getaway: most are happy to plan a Pokemon-inspired getaway, with over 7 in 10 planning to play on their next trip, 4 in 10 choosing their destination based on Pokemon stops, and planning in time for finding Pokemon Go Gyms or lures.

Most expect to spend between 2-3 hours per day of their holiday playing – even more time than when they are at home.

Singaporeans want to catch-em-all – they think there are more Pokemon available in destinations like Bangkok, Tokyo, Sydney and Melbourne, each destination ranking high in the list of locations they would be prepared to visit to increase their chances of a good catch. If they visit to go hunting, they want to make sure there’s a good reward!

Even if they’re not playing Pokemon, the most popular feature when choosing a hotel is to find one near famous landmarks. Curiously, this is also where 63% of people most expect to find a Pokemon!

But it seems Singaporeans want it all. They want a Pokemon getaway but they also prefer non-Pokemon activities. 6 in 10 hope to explore more whilst seeking Pokemon, and are looking for free hotel Wi-Fi for Pokemon Go just as much as a free breakfast. Yet at the same time the biggest influence when booking the next trip is great food, over and above music, film, or the celebrity appeal, with Pokemon being least important. They also say they would prefer a romantic walk on the beach or time alone with a loved one, rather than a Pokemon hunt.

Jessica Chuang, Director, Regional Marketing G. China, SEA & IN, Hotels.com adds: “The Pokemon holiday is a complicated mix of Pokemon-hunting, going to the Pokemon-gym, and exploring destinations through the eyes of the Pokemon world. Yet there might be some confused girlfriends and boyfriends, expecting the romantic walk on the beach whilst their other half is secretly steering them towards the nearest ‘Lure’. Despite this, it’s clear the Pokémon Go phenomenon is influencing our holiday destinations, opening our minds to new adventures in new destinations.”
