Manufacturing, retail giants wage war against haze

They want to increase the uptake of sustainably-produced palm oil.

Some of Singapore's largest manufacturers and retailers in a bid to deliver haze-free products to consumers in Singapore.

The Singapore Alliance for Sustainable Palm Oil has been jointly founded by Unilever, Ayam Brand, Danone, IKEA and Wildlife Reserves Singapore.

The alliance's primary goal is to increase uptake of sustainably produced palm oil (CSPO) by manufacturers and retailers.

Dhaval Buch, Chief Procurement Officer for Unilever noted that in order to eliminate deforestation, firms need to ensure that their supply chains are fully traceable and certified to be sustainable.

"In the case of palm oil, we work closely with our suppliers and expert partners to make sure we have robust traceability and risk verification systems on the ground. In 2016, our Sustainable Palm Oil Sourcing Policy was relaunched with stronger commitments on human rights, smallholder inclusion and traceability implementation," he said.
