Retail sales up 3.5% in August

Sales of petrol services grew the largest during the month.

Singapore's retail sales index enjoyed a 3.5% YoY growth in August, boosted by higher sales in petrol services and recreational goods, the Department of Statistics (SingStat) revealed.

Sales growth was the highest for Petrol Service Stations with 9.5%, followed by recreational goods with 8.3%, and medical goods with 7.6%.

Four industries saw declines for their August sales. The sales index of watches & jewellery dipped 0.4%, mini-marts & convenience Stores fell 1.1%, food retailers slipped 2.1%, whilst optical goods & books fell 4.1%.
