Chart of the Day: Aggressive SingTel is snatching StarHub's pay-TV customers
The pay-TV rivalry is escalating.
StarHub used to be the undisputed leader when it comes to providing pay-TV services. In recent years, however, SingTel has aggressively increased its pay-TV market share and encroached on StarHub's customer base.
The two operators are now almost toe-to-toe in the pay-TV space, with Starhub keeping a slim advantage over its larger competitor, according to UOB Kay Hian.
SingTel's pay-TV market has grown exponentially since 2007, but growth has plateaued in recent years.
UOB Kay Hian noted that the differences in content offered by Singtel TV and StarHub TV have narrowed.
“The two pay-TV operators are also increasingly securing or renewing rights to content on a non-exclusive basis. Bundling of multiple services gives Singtel and StarHub a more resilient customer base that is less likely to be poached by competing mobile operators,” said the report.
