M1, EZ-Link tie-up to allow fare payments with mobile devices using new SIM card

Subscribers can nab their new SIMs starting tomorrow.

M1 customers can look forward to hassle-free commutes, as they will soon be able to use their mobile devices to pay for their transit fares.

According to M1’s news release, M1 and EZ-Link’s team-up to allow M1 customers to change their SIM cards to a near field communication (NFC) transit SIM at any M1 outlet. With the new SIM card, commuters can use their mobile devices to pay for their MRT, LRT, and bus rides.

“The NFC transit SIM is a next generation, full-service NFC SIM which can be used for public transport, as well as at more than 30,000 EZ-Link acceptance points islandwide including shopping, retail, food & beverage and taxis payments,” said M1.

The NFC transit SIM card is also equipped with M1 Prepaid MasterCard, which lets users top up M1’s prepaid mobile M Card or make purchases at merchants that accept MasterCard Paypass.

The SIM card will cost $37.45, including GST. As a launch promotion, M1 announced it is waiving the $9.10 activation (including GST) fee for customers signing up from tomorrow until 30 April 2016, while stocks for the SIM last.
