East-West Line stations to close 30 minutes earlier
SMRT is launching Phase 2 of sleeper replacements.
Starting 14 February, the East-West Line (EWL) will close 30 minutes earlier as SMRT works to replace sleepers, according to a report by the transport operator.
The stations between Tanah Merah to Pasir Ris and Joo Koon to Jurong East will close earlier from Sundays to Thursdays, except on the eve of public holidays.
“From 14 February 2016, commuters who board trains after 11:15pm on the EWL are advised to plan their journey and consider alternative transport arrangements, such as bus services, to get to their destination,” said Roger Lim, Programme Director of Track and Infrastructure.
SMRT assures commuters, however, that the early closure will end by August this year.
This will be the second phase of earlier closure as SMRT works to replace 92,000 timber sleepers with concrete ones by 2017 as part of its rail renewal projects. So far, SMRT has completed 26% of the replacements.
