SG vows enhanced bilateral cooperation with the Philippines

The focus will be on security and defence and education.

The Singaporean government vowed to enhance its bilateral cooperation with the Philippines, particularly on security and defence and education.

This was discussed during Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan’s meeting with his Philippine counterpart Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr. on 31 January.

The two diplomats also had a “fruitful exchange of views on regional and international developments, including efforts to uphold ASEAN centrality, unity and credibility, and the situation in Myanmar,” during their meeting.

On tourism and travel, the officials expressed optimism on the restoration of travel links between the two countries once the pandemic situation has eased.

The Philippines will open its borders to fully-jabbed foreign travellers from visa-free countries beginning 10 February, including Singapore.
