The last time that the TFR of the resident population was above the replacement level of 2.1 was in 1976.
The National Population and Talent Division of the Prime Minister’s Office said the declining trend in TFR can be attributed to the following key factors: a. more people are staying single or getting married later; and b. married couples are having their first child later and having fewer children.
