Sembcorp to jointly develop 1GWp solar project in Indonesia

The company partnered with Indonesia’s PT PLN Batam and Suryagen.

Sembcorp Industries will jointly develop a solar and energy storage facility in Indonesia that can generate approximately 1 gigawatt-peak of renewable power.

The Singaporean company signed an exclusive joint development agreement to develop the facility in Indonesia’s Batam, Bintan, and Karimun (BBK) region.

The renewable power generated in the BBK facility was proposed to be transmitted to Singapore via subsea cables.

Aside from providing both markets with their energy needs, the project will also support about 1,000 direct and indirect jobs in Indonesia and Singapore during the construction phase.

Sembcorp CEO Wong Kim Yin said the project will mark another step in the company’s transaction “from brown to green.”
