Singapore Business Review (SBR) is hosting an awarding ceremony in the fourth of December to recognize the city's crème de la crème.
SBR has been ranking some of the city's major industries in the past two years. Starting off with ranking Singapore's largest accounting firms based on total employment, SBR has since been successful in providing valuable information both to candidates contemplating the search for largest employers, as well as to the firms themselves and their clients.
Ranking by size is simply based on the number of professionals retained by each firm and is an objective standard for gauging a firm’s competence. As for many cases, the number of employees varies from time to time as companies in perfect competition try to maximize profits. A firm which has grown in size implies that it has matured and has survived the fleet in tight competition, not only in attracting clients but also in retaining talents. It means that the organization has divided itself into departments, where professionals practice nothing else but their specific areas of expertise. It thus means that the firms can command high rates and compete for clients by mere reputation.
Succeeding industries that SBR covered are the legal, commercial banking, property brokerage, architecture, and engineering.
Special metrics were used to other industries such as the hotel, serviced apartments, MBA, and insurance. The hotels and serviced apartments were ranked based on their total number of rooms or units while the size of MBA shools and programs were determined by the number of students. Lastly, the insurance firms were ranked based on their total assets.
The results of the ranking per industry were printed in specific issues of the magazine. Digital versions are also available for download from SBR's official website at sbr.com.sg, except for the insurance and serviced apartments which are yet to be featured in the upcoming issue.
