Singapore’s top 5 work from home jobs

Here are jobs that you can do while sitting on your couch or in your favorite coffee shop.

It seems that more and more Singaporeans are taking the leap into freelancing and reaping the benefits of working from home. According to Evan Tan, Regional Director for Southeast Asia of job portal Freelancer.com, there is a significant 74% increase in its Singaporean database in the last 12 months. The growth surely has gotten the attention of different organizations such as the National Trade Union Congress and The Law Society of Singapore to educate freelancers, adds Tan.

"Working from home has several benefits. For one, freelancers are given the liberty to work at the comforts of their own home or even in their favorite coffee shop. It's a practice of discipline: freelancers can manage their own time and take as many projects to build a strong portfolio. It goes beyond just earning extra income, it's a chance to build a global professional network and experience that takes years in the corporate world to achieve. The beauty of freelancing is that it gives everyone an equal opportunity to find a job they are passionate on - no matter their background, gender, age, etc. is.," he said.

September data from the Ministry of Manpower show that hiring local workers has been very strong in the first 6 months of 2014. Tan notes that he noticed the same trend when it comes to local employers. “While 79% of Singapore's Freelancer.com community are freelancers, Singaporean employers are more active in terms of outsourcing tasks and posting projects online. Moreover, it's evident that Singaporean freelancers are mostly hired by local employers."

From their data, the top countries that hire Singaporean freelancers are: USA, Singapore, India, Australia, and the United Kingdom.
