SP launches cybersecurity centre for SMEs and student training

The facility offers penetration testing and threat monitoring.

Singapore Polytechnic (SP) has launched a cybersecurity facility to provide assessment and monitoring services to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), whilst giving students hands-on training.

The Cybersecurity Assessment and Security Operations Centre Training Lab for Enterprises (CASTLE) will offer penetration testing, vulnerability assessments and security operations centre support.

Its other services include cybersecurity hygiene checks aligned with frameworks and practices from the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore and industry partners, as well as an awareness programme for SME owners and employees.

SP has also become the first Institute of Higher Learning in Singapore licensed by the Cybersecurity Services Regulation Office to provide penetration testing services.

The polytechnic has partnered with Offensive Security to provide students with a pathway to earn the Offensive Security Certified Professional certification.

SP expects more than 180 students to benefit annually through projects, internships and operational training, whilst up to 50 SMEs are expected to use CASTLE’s cybersecurity services and awareness programmes by mid-2027.

The launch comes as reported ransomware cases rose 21% in 2024, with manufacturing and professional services amongst the sectors most affected, according to the Singapore Cyber Landscape 2024/2025 report.

SP has separately partnered with ST Engineering’s Cyber business to establish an on-campus SME Cybersecurity Operations & Training Centre.

The centre will operate as a live security operations centre for security monitoring, threat detection and incident response, and will also support training and internships.

SP and Athena Dynamics also signed a memorandum of understanding to develop curriculum capabilities in operational technology and industrial control systems cybersecurity.

The collaboration will expose students to cybersecurity practices used in industrial and operational environments.
