SGX securities market turnover jumps 37% YoY to $46.2b in July

Total market capitalisation increased to $1.2t.

Singapore Exchange (SGX Group) securities market turnover rose 37% year-on-year (YoY) to $46.2b in July.

Securities' daily average value (SDAV) similarly increased 37% to surpass $2b for a sixth consecutive month.

Derivatives traded volume climbed 16% YoY to 33.9 million contracts, with derivatives daily average volume (DAV) also up 16% YoY to about 1.5 million contracts.

SGX’s overall turnover velocity increased to 44% in July from 41% a year earlier, whilst SGX Catalist turnover velocity rose to 39% from 37%.

Total market capitalisation increased to $1.2t in July 2026 from $946b in July 2025.

The Straits Times Index (STI) advanced 8.9% in July to 5,628.5, marking its biggest month-on-month (MoM) increase in over five years.

The increase was supported by a global rotation out of technology into defensive financials.

Year-to-date, the benchmark returned 21% on a price-return basis, outperforming ASEAN peers in Singapore dollar terms.

Cash equities SDAV increased across all investor segments, led by institutional investors with 38% YoY growth.

Retail investors were net buyers for a sixth consecutive month, with net inflows rising 92% MoM to $545.2m, primarily in small- and mid-cap stocks.

STI exchange-traded funds (ETFs) recorded their 17th consecutive month of net inflows in July, bringing cumulative inflows to $1.6b.

Assets under management rose 89% YoY to $5.6b.

SGX Commodities reported its strongest July for petrochemicals and SGX SICOM rubber derivatives.

The volume of petrochemical contracts, including benzene and naphtha, rose 51% YoY.

Rubber futures and options volume climbed 2% YoY to 316,485 contracts.

Across all commodity derivatives, year-to-date average open interest increased 18% YoY, whilst year-to-date DAV rose 5%.

In listed currency markets, mixed economic signals in the US drove hedging activity.

Total FX futures traded volume rose 54% YoY in July to 9.3 million contracts.

DAV of SGX KRW/USD FX Futures surged 182% YoY to 54,453 lots.

Daily average open interest in SGX TWD/USD FX Futures climbed 84.6% MoM to a notional $52.9m (US$41.3m).
