AEM Holdings Ltd clinches win at Singapore Business Review Listed Companies Awards 2019

The test equipment and handling systems provider won in the electronic manufacturing category.

AEM Holdings Ltd (“AEM” or “the Company”), a global provider of test equipment and handling systems, was awarded the Listed Companies Award 2019 in the electronic manufacturing category. The annual awards recognises companies with innovative projects and best practices with significant business impact.

AEM started developing its high density modular handler in 2013 for one of the world’s top semiconductor companies. This handling system has enabled AEM’s customer to dramatically reduce its cost-of-test whilst increasing test coverage. The successful introduction and ramp of AEM’s new handler has led to a sixfold increase in net profit in 2017 of S$32.2 million and a similar level in 2018 of S$33.5 million.

“Traditionally, semiconductor chips need to go through a series of tests under an automated test equipment (ATE) framework,” said AEM’s Executive Chairman Loke Wai San. “The cost-of-test is typically high under ATE, and as mission-critical chips become increasingly complex for the 5G, electric vehicle, Industry 4.0 and data centric applications, the requirement on testing efficiency and accuracy has become more stringent, and thus the need for a new paradigm for integrating back-end test.”

The company has also launched its AMPS (Asynchronous Modular Parallel Smart solution platform) in early 2018, a platform to perform system level test which includes characteristics such as singular test framework that supports different testers, modular handler structure with advanced active thermal control and intelligent vision that could be customised for each customer’s specific needs. “The AMPS operates on a massively parallel test framework which bolsters efficiency and saves costs. This is applicable to a wide range of chipmakers and third-party testing companies,” said Mr. Loke.

In October 2018, AEM was chosen by Chinese technology giant Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. to co-develop, in collaboration with China Electronics Technology Group Corporation No.23 Research Institute, a cost-effective test solutions for Huawei’s high-performance short reach cabling links in its 5G backhaul network. AEM has since received acceptance from Huawei for its test equipment and solution. “This is a testament by the largest telecom equipment supplier in the world on AEM’s advanced test technology and its ability to customise complex test solutions,” said Mr. Loke.

Mr. Loke further added, “Receiving this award is a great encouragement to us. It validates our drive to innovate, take calculated risk and stay focused on our growth strategy.”

The Listed Companies Awards, presented by Singapore Business Review, was held last 11 July 2019 at Conrad Centennial Singapore.

This year’s nominations were judged by a panel consisting of Henry Tan, Managing Director, NEXIA TS; Choo Eng Chuan, EY Asean Markets Leader and Partner, International and Corporate Tax Services, Ernst & Young Solutions LLP; Ng Jiak See, Executive Director, Head of Corporate Finance Advisory, Deloitte Singapore & Southeast Asia; and Toh Kim Teck, Assurance Partner, Foo Kon Tan LLP.
