It’s a battle between Lazada and Qoo10 with Shopee on the side, a study found.
Alibaba Group’s Lazada is the most preferred e-commerce site for Singaporeans in terms of monthly active users (MAU), a study by Malaysia-based shopping aggregator iPrice revealed.
Lazada also leads in MAU in the Philippines, Malaysia, and Thailand, whilst it was ranked second and fourth in Vietnam and Indonesia, respectively.
Meanwhile, homegrown Qoo10 is a runner-up in Singapore, followed by Shopee (3rd), Taobao (4th) and ezbuy (5th). Rounding up the top ten are Zalora (6th), AliExpress (7th), Amazon (8th), Amazon Prime Now (9th), and ASOS (10th).
In terms of total average visits, Qoo10 beats Lazada in Singapore. Shopee (3rd), Strawberrynet (4th) and ezbuy (5th) are also on the list.
According to iPrice, Lazada experienced a decline in its overall average total visits on desktop and mobile web in the region in Q1 2019 compared to Q4 2018. “This was probably due to the difference in marketing initiatives between the two periods,” the firm explained, noting that Q1 2019 had the Lunar New Year Sale and Lazada Birthday Sale whilst Q4 2018 had the 11.11 Sale, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, 12.12 Sale as well as Christmas and New Year Sales.
On the other hand, Shopee is seeing better days in the region with a 5% rise in its overall average total visits bolstered by Indonesia and Thailand. “This indicates that Shopee was able to maintain its growth momentum from the previous quarter although the first quarter of the year is considered a non-peak period,” the study noted.
