SingTel unveils WhatsApp, Opera Mini prepaid plans

They're available starting at $.50 per day.

According to a release, SingTel has launched the first prepaid mobile plans in Singapore to allow users to surf the web and send email and instant messages to their heart's content.

With SingTel’s WhatsApp plans, prepaid users can enjoy worry-free usage of the popular instant messaging service, without incurring additional data charges. Available from as little as 50 cents per day, the plan makes it more affordable than ever for prepaid mobile subscribers to stay in touch with friends and family around the world.

Mr Brian Acton, WhatsApp co-founder, said: “We are delighted to partner with SingTel to provide a great offering to our mutual users in Singapore. This exclusive partnership reinforces WhatsApp's global leadership and together with market leader, SingTel, offers the best service for SingTel’s prepaid smartphone customers.”

SingTel has also launched the Opera Mini Surf & Mail plans, which enable SingTel prepaid users to surf as much as they wish via the Opera Mini web browser, from just $1 per day.

Opera Mini can be used with both feature phones and smartphones, as well as iOS and Android tablets. It provides a simple and cost-effective way for prepaid users to find important information on-the-move and stay connected via social media.

Mr Johan Buse, SingTel's Vice President of Consumer Marketing, said: “Many of our prepaid mobile customers today are active on social media and have embraced web-based apps to communicate and organise their lives.

Our postpaid customers enjoy generous data allowances with their monthly subscriptions that enables them to chat, surf and engage in social media. The plans we have launched today will provide our prepaid customers with a similar level of convenience at an affordable price to meet their online needs.”
