Daily Briefing: New SafeEntry Gateways to be set up at malls, other public places; Huttons names new legal counsel

And how Dash Living built a co-living community of 13k+ members across Singapore, HK.

From ChannelNewsAsia:

Checking in to a location via the TraceTogether token or mobile app will soon be a faster process with a new system called SafeEntry Gateway.

It allows visitors to check in by placing their TraceTogether tokens or mobile phone within 25cm of the gateway device or a box – similar to using an EZ-Link card on public transport.

The box will beep and show a green light if the check-in is successful. For those using mobile phones, the TraceTogether app must be open for the check-in to proceed.

Announcing this on 16 March, the Smart Nation and Digital Government Group said the SafeEntry Gateways will be deployed from 19 April at selected places with large numbers of visitors, such as malls, cinemas, hospitals and gated tourist attractions.

Other venues include large standalone retail outlets, supermarkets, public libraries, selected museums and galleries, MICE event venues, places of worship and funeral parlours with wake halls.

From PropertyGuru:

Huttons Group has appointed Yeo Chin Hao as its new Legal Counsel and Shaun Tan as Head of Training and Special Projects.

Aside from leading Huttons in all legal aspects, Yeo will also provide consultation to improve the professionalism and level of customer service of associates. He will also contribute to the company’s in-house knowledge management system.

Previously serving as legal counsel of fashion retailer F J Benjamin, Yeo holds a Bachelor of Laws from the National University of Singapore, and is called to the Singapore Bar.

Mark Yip, chief executive officer of Huttons Asia, noted that Yeo “is very experienced in real estate and commercial law”.

“He has a long relationship with Huttons as he had conducted training sessions for our associates in his practice. Furthermore, many associates would call him when they needed prompt advice,” he said.

Tan, on the other hand, will spearhead companywide training while championing new initiatives to empower Huttons associates.

He will be joining Huttons from privately held developer Far East Organization where he “implemented training roadmaps for sales personnel, conducted trainings and developed a knowledge management repository across various departments”.

From e27:

Aaron Lee, a full-time serial entrepreneur and part-time boxer, had just returned to Hong Kong after completing his education in the United States.

However, as an expat, he encountered challenges in finding affordable accommodation in Hong Kong, as there were limited options available. The ones that existed charged exorbitant rents and their leasing terms were not flexible. And it got lonely to stay without friends in a flat in Hong Kong.

This led Lee to set up Dash Living, a home-sharing platform, which has grown to cover over 1,200 units in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Besides solving accommodation problems for millennials like himself, Dash also solves one of the biggest challenges that young working professionals face: that is, finding affordable, all-inclusive premium living spaces.

One of the most important characteristics of co-living spaces is a community, and Dash has quickly managed to secure over 13,000 followers across its social media platforms.

“Building a community is certainly a crucial aspect for startups,” Lee said. “While we are more nimble, adaptable, and creative, we are also the underdogs with fewer resources than the big guys. Whether it is tenant communities, investor communities, brand partners, or collaborator communities, having like-minded people around not only amplifies but also helps shape and nurture a company’s message and culture, ultimately helping it grow.”
