SIA passenger load factor rose 4.4 ppt to 84.8% in August

The stronger returning traffic amidst the summer holidays improved PLF.

Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group's passenger load factor (PLF) inched up 4.4 ppt YoY to 84.8% in August. On a monthly basis, it improved 0.2 ppt from 84.6% in July, an announcement revealed.

Passenger carriage (measured in revenue passenger kilometres) increased 8.9% YoY whilst capacity increased 3.2%. PLF improved for all route regions amidst the stronger returning traffic from the summer holidays.

For SilkAir, the systemwide passenger carriage grew 8.8%, ahead of capacity growth of 3.9%. Consequently, the carrier’s PLF inched up 3.6 ppt to 79.4% and PLF improved for all route regions.

Meanwhile, Scoot recorded a passenger carriage growth of 23.5%, exceeding capacity expansion of 18.7%. Its PLF grew 3.5 ppt to 88.3%. Scoot’s PLF on all route regions improved as demand outpaced changes in capacity. Selected routes to North Asia, India, Vietnam and Australia saw sustained improvement.

Meanwhile, cargo load factor (CLF) fell 0.3 ppt, as cargo traffic (measured in freight-tonne-kilometres) increased 0.9%, trailing growth in cargo capacity of 1.4%. CLF improved across most regions except Americas and South West Pacific with the demands not keeping pace with capacity changes.
