SIA among 2016’s 20 safest airlines: survey
Several regional carriers didn’t do as well, though.
Singapore Airlines (SIA) is ranked as one of the 20 safest airlines in 2016, according to a survey by AirlineRatings.com.
Overall, the website reviewed 407 airlines, and found that 148 have the seven-star safety ranking but almost 50 have three stars or less. There are 10 airlines from Indonesia, Nepal, and Surinam with only one star.
The survey revealed ratings for other regional and local carriers as well—SilkAir received seven stars, Tiger and Scoot received five stars, Malaysia Airlines received five stars, Thai Airways received four stars, and Garuda Indonesia received three stars.
The list was topped by Australia’s Qantas for the third consecutive year, while the rest of the airlines noted were unranked. Others that made the list were All Nippon Airlines, Cathay Pacific Airways, Emirates, Japan Airlines, Lufthansa, Swiss, and Virgin Atlantic.
