SIA Group's load factor drops to 77.9%

Blame it on weaker passenger demands in Asian regions.

Despite a slight uptick in passenger carriage at 0.1%, Singapore Airlines has suffered declining passenger load factor (PLF), which measures the airline’s capacity to fill in seats and generate revenue.

According to an announcement filed in Singapore Exchange, the group’s load factor dropped to 77.9% in the previous month, compared to the 80.2% recorded in the same period last year.

Load factor across East Asia has remained flat, but it has seen declines for all other regions due to weaker passenger demand.

Singapore Airlines' PLF dipped 2.1 points to 78.7%, while SilkAir's load factor declined 1 point to 65.7%. Scoot also experienced a drop, declining 4.9 points to 78.6%. Fate’s the same with Tigerair as its PLF fell 2.7 points to 79%.

“The competitive landscape remains challenging and promotional activities will continue in relevant markets,” the group said.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
