HERE Technologies wins SBR Technology Excellence Award for IoT - Location Services

By providing location platform services to Raxel Telematics, HERE Technologies demonstrates the value of highly accurate and easily scalable solutions for the transmission of computerised data in the Internet of Things.

In keeping up with Singapore’s role as a leading hub of innovation in the Asia-Pacific region, Singapore Business Review (SBR) honours the achievements of companies that have successfully launched technological innovation projects and serve as models in their respective industries. The SBR Technology Excellence Awards for 2019 recognises a new group of enterprises with groundbreaking products, services, and strategies. The nominees are judged on the basis of uniqueness and innovation, effectiveness and impact on a client or an entire industry, and dynamism, which reflects flexibility amidst changes and progressive opportunities.

In collaboration with Raxel Telematics, HERE is one of the winners this year for the IoT - Location Services category. The company is guided by the vision of “enabling an autonomous world for everyone.” HERE, the Open Location Platform company, enables people, businesses and cities to harness the power of location by “building a digital representation of reality entirely built upon location data.” The enterprise provides a wide range of products and solutions, including those for fleet utilisation, supply chain optimisation, advertising data science, urban movement and new mobility services.

HERE’s award-winning achievement is embodied in its location platform, which is used by Raxel Telematics in many applications targeting the Insurance market, including data enhancement for vehicle and user telematics products, road matching, geo-zone and route optimisation, lifestyle analysis, and behavior analytics. These applications result in efficient and precise tasks for businesses in the transportation, telecommunications, insurance, market research, internet and media, infrastructure, and other sectors.

The partnership between HERE and Raxel Telematics focuses on a telematic technology framework with various facets, such as a mobile telematics library (with software development kits for iOS and Android), which connects to smartphone sensors. A telematics engine gathers important data and conducts primary analysis before transferring the data to the Raxel platform. A user statistics interface is used to display data on a mobile application, thus eliminating the need for the app developer to develop integration with Raxel.

An important feature of the telematics library is the automatic application that starts recording the location track from the beginning to the end of a trip. Another is iBeacon, a low-energy Bluetooth device for recording frequent and short trips (e.g., delivery) on a particular car. Manual mode can also be enabled by pressing a button on the mobile app; for instance, in car sharing, the trip starts and stops being recorded when the car doors are opened and closed. The automatic and manual modes can even be combined for further convenience. Tracking and positioning become flexible and manageable, thanks to a method that allows end-to-end, real- time tracking of historical locations of people, devices, and things. HERE’s technology is also characterised by low battery consumption, high-frequency data collection at up to 30 times per second, autonomous functioning that simplifies the integration between the telematics library and platform, multi-sensor access to data in specific locations, and accident pattern detection by phone sensors.

Raxel’s device-agnostic telematic platform (MS Azure) consists of several components to process data from receiving, clearing, normalisation, reconstruction (of lost GPS points, for example), enrichment (by using external sources such as road infrastructure, traffic, speed limits, and weather conditions), analysis, and storage in a data warehouse for use by business interfaces.

Harnessing the power of location intelligence, Raxel’s data hub is able to gather user statistics, perform management of marketing activities and support business intelligence tools such as Power BI, Qlik, and Tableau. These tools allow analysts to conduct their own research as well as create reports and models.

The new HERE Partner Program not only supports partners such as Raxel, it also allows them to utilise HERE’s next-generation location services. With that, Raxel is able to unlock telematic data insights and offer up-to-minute information to organisations (such as insurance companies) and individuals whose businesses rely on accurate and reliable data in the IoT ecosystem.

The Technology Excellence Awards, presented by Singapore Business Review, was held on 30 May 2019 at the Conrad Centennial Singapore.
