Energy boost: Additional S$195m allotted for energy sector R&D

It will help the Energy Innovation Programme Office accelerate the growth of Singapore’s clean energy industry.

The additional allotment for the five-year period to 2015 is from the National Research Foundation.

The R&D funding will also help EIPO reach the 2015 targets of S$1.7 billion of economic value-added and 7,000 skilled jobs. Focus will be on solar energy and exploration of new growth areas such as smart grids, green buildings, and carbon capture and utilisation.

It will support public research centres and another part will also be devoted to competitive grants to solicit bottom-up innovations.

The funding will augment EIPO’s efforts in the commercialisation of R&D results and develop postgraduate talent as well.
