Why are accounting and finance professionals in SG leaving their employers?
A quarter (25%) of professionals plan to leave their employers in the next 12 months.
Accounting and finance professionals in Singapore and throughout the Asia-Pacific region are leaving employers at a high rate, according to the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA).
In Singapore, 17% of professionals have voluntarily left their companies over the past 24 months. Meanwhile, 25% plan to leave their employers in the next 12 months and 10% plan to leave the profession.
Professionals’ reasons for leaving their company or the industry vary, from low job satisfaction to disengagement with work or the workplace.
According to IMA, a much larger percentage of accounting and finance professionals in Singapore who intended to leave their employer or the profession said they felt disengaged with work or the workplace.
Data from the IMA report showed that 50% of professionals want to leave the accounting/finance profession in the next 12 months because they felt disengaged with work or the workplace.
For the same reason, 43% and 45% said they would leave their current employer in the next six months and 12 months, respectively.
Of the professionals intending to leave the profession, 26% feel that their contributions are not adequately valued in their organisation, whilst 22% said they were overworked for too long and chose to disengage.
Professionals planning to leave their employer in the next six and 12 months also felt that their contributions are not adequately valued in their organisations (22%, 21%).
