What you need to know about Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance’s new hires

RSA has new senior management appointments in its Specialty unit across Asia & Middle East.

According to a release, all these appointments will report into Mark Mitchell, CEO, Singapore & CEO, Specialty, Asia & Middle East.

Chief Underwriting Officer, Specialty, Asia & Middle East

To further develop and grow our large & complex business in Asia & Middle East Mike Spencer has been appointed to this newly created role of Chief Underwriting Officer, Specialty. All Specialty underwriting line of business Heads will report into Mike, who will in-turn report directly to Mark Mitchell, CEO of Specialty, Asia & Middle East.

Mike has 24 years experience in the insurance industry and joins us from Zurich where he was their Global Head of Construction, based in London. Prior to his successful career at Zurich, Mike spent a number of years in Hong Kong, where he also gained significant experience across multiple lines in both the Asian Insurance and Reinsurance markets, working for companies such as Scor Re and Generalli.

Head of Specialty Claims, Asia & Middle East

In May 2011 RSA appointed Mark Burr as Head of Specialty Claims based in Singapore to embed the Specialty claims proposition in Asia & the Middle East. Mark has 22 years international claims experience both as a claims consultant and claims auditor. His international experience includes ten years direct claims management with Commercial Union in the UK, Argentina and Brazil and 7 years London Market reinsurance consultancy with Compre.

Mark joins RSA after 5 years improving claims performance at Lloyd's of London in various roles including Senior Claims Manager. Mark brings to his new role at RSA not only his technical expertise but also a successful track record of building claims propositions, strong relationships and teams.

Mark replaces John Lewis who over the last 2 years has played a key role in the successful development of the Specialty Claims Proposition. John has previously worked in a claims leadership role in our regional office in the Middle East and has a very strong reputation in the market for his technical capability in settling large and complex claims.

To raise the profile of Specialty claims in the Middle East, John will relocate to our Dubai office to take on the role of Specialty Claims Leader with responsibility for Construction & Engineering claims in Asia & the Middle East and Property claims in the Middle East.

Head of Sales & Marketing, Specialty, Asia & Middle East

Also in May 2011 RSA appointed Simon Warner as Head of Sales & Marketing, Specialty, Asia & Middle East. In his previous role at Chartis as S.E.A Regional Accounts Manager Simon managed the distribution and development of the Chartis Regional Corporate Account portfolio across South East Asia. With his 28 years of working experience in London, New York and Asia, he has held a broad range of business development and management roles including Underwriting, Branch Management, Country Business Development and Global Head Office Strategic Management.

In his new role with RSA Simon will be part of the senior leadership team for Specialty and he will help shape the development and delivery of business strategies for Specialty. He will lead the sales function to drive the achievement of Specialty's sales targets across Asia Middle East and ensure the necessary sales capacity and capability are effectively developed and managed to achieve them.

Human Resource (HR) Director, Specialty, Asia & Middle East

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Terrance Charles as the new HR Director, Specialty, Asia & Middle East.

Terrance joins us with a wealth of HR experience from the banking and finance industry, including time spent with Citibank in London and the Gulf Finance House in Bahrain. Immediately prior to joining RSA Terrance was working as Head of Human Resource & Administration with Cemena B.S.C based in Bahrain.

In his new role with RSA, Terrance will support Mark Mitchell, CEO of Specialty in all Specialty HR activities and initiatives across the Asia Middle East region.

Executive Assistant to CEO, Singapore & Specialty, Asia & Middle East

In another newly created role, Junie Lim has been appointed as Executive Assistant to Mark Mitchell, CEO, Singapore & CEO, Specialty, Asia & Middle East. Junie will support Mark in managing a number of key business processes and oversee agreed projects or activities on behalf of Mark.

Before joining RSA, Junie worked with AXA Life Singapore as Manager, Strategic Planning & Projects. In her role with AXA, she was involved in corporate planning, leading and coordinating the annual strategic planning exercise and business reviews with key business stakeholders. A graduate from Nanyang Technological University of Singapore Junie holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy.
