HSA seeks feedback for proposed health products active ingredients regulation

The public can submit their feedback until 23 August.

The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) is calling for public feedback on the proposed regulation for active ingredients under the Health Products Act from 17 July to 23 August.

In a statement, HSA said streamlined- and risk-based regulatory controls will “ensure that active ingredients consistently meet the appropriate quality standards” amidst the heightened complexity in the manufacturing and supply chain of such ingredients.

Active ingredients are pharmacologically active substances used in health and therapeutic products, cell tissue or gene therapy products and medical devices.

Under the proposed regulation, HSA aims to adopt a risk-based regulatory approach for the licensing of manufacturers, importers and wholesalers of active ingredients.

Once the proposal is implemented the regulatory controls of active ingredients under the Poisons Act 1938 and Medicines Act 1975 will no longer be applied.
