Pacific Healthcare appoints Eu Kong Weng as chief of the Pacific Surgical and Colorectal Centre

Professor Eu brings with him more than 20 years of experience in treating colorectal conditions.

Professor Eu Kong Weng joins Pacific Healthcare as the Chief of Pacific Surgical and Colorectal Centre. One of the leading colorectal surgeons in Singapore, Professor Eu brings with him more than 20 years of experience in treating colorectal conditions, including eight years as the Head of Department at the Singapore General Hospital’s Department of Colorectal Surgery from 2003 to 2010. He was also the Director of the SGH Tripartite Robotics Assisted Laparoscopic Surgery Project, an initiative that pioneers cutting-edge surgical technologies. Having conducted over 400 laparoscopic colon and rectal operations and over 35 robotic colorectal resections, Professor Eu is one of Singapore’s most experienced doctors in the field of minimally- invasive colorectal surgeries.

On board with Professor Eu, is Dr Bernard Lim, who will be a Consultant Surgeon at PSCC. Dr Lim’s area of specialty is in General and Colorectal Surgery, with sub-specialty interest in minimally- invasive colorectal surgery, e.g. conventional “key-hole” laparoscopic, single-port, and robotic surgeries.

Also joining Dr Lim as a Consultant Surgeon at PSCC is Dr Julian Ong. His areas of interest are in endoscopy and in minimally-invasive surgery, particularly in laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer.

Dr Ong also focuses on the management of all other colorectal conditions and surgery for perianal conditions.

Professor Eu noted, “I am excited and honoured to join a healthcare provider renowned for its medical expertise and service excellence. Besides providing top-notch medical services, one of PSCC’s aims is to raise the awareness of colorectal-related conditions and cancer, and to spread the message of effective prevention and cure. I look forward to working with my new colleagues to serve and improve the well-being of our patients.”

Added Mr Poh, “The management is pleased to welcome Professor Eu onboard. We believe the addition of Professor Eu to our team will strengthen PSCC’s capabilities and help us in our goal of becoming the preferred destination for colorectal surgeries and endoscopies.”

Professor Eu obtained his medical degree from the National University of Singapore in 1986 and completed his surgery fellowship in the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He subsequently trained as an advanced trainee and clinical fellow at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio, USA.

In addition to his appointment at PSCC, Professor Eu will serve as the Chairman of Pacific Healthcare’s medical board. He is currently a visiting consultant at KK Hospital, Changi Hospital and the National Cancer Centre and holds an advisory role in various professional bodies, including as a Clinical Associate Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine; Adjunct Professor of Surgery at the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School; and Visiting Professor at the University of Hong Kong Medical Centre. He was the President of the ASEAN Society of Colorectal Surgeons in 2007 and the President of the Singapore Society of Colorectal Surgeons in 2004.
