Four in five job seekers would turn down an offer over poor diversity, inclusion practices: study

Only three in 10 employers have implemented diverse hiring.

More than three-quarters or 78% of those unemployed in Singapore are willing to reject a job offer if the employer does not foster an inclusive and diverse workplace culture, according to a study by Indeed.

With less than three in 10 employers giving diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) importance when hiring, Indeed noted that there is a clear misalignment between the expectations of job seekers and the practices observed by companies.

The study found that 91% of employers continue to recognise the importance of maintaining a culture of respect, equity, and inclusivity in the workplace, with more than half saying they can help improve the working environment by creating a culture of growth, support and collaboration.

Despite this acknowledgment, only three in 10 firms have team-building activities to boost work-life balance while less than a third perform regular workload assessments to avoid burnout.

For the job seekers, the vast majority said flexible schedule and remote work arrangements are their top considerations for a job opportunity.
