Singpass Face Verification launched for CPF members amidst malware incidents

The government recently detected malware that infects Android devices.

The CPF Board and GovTech introduced Singpass Face Verification (SFV)as a precautionary measure to protect vulnerable CPF members who access CPF e-services.

In a joint statement, the government bodies asked for patience from CPF members as it might create inconvenience when accessing CPF online services.

The recent developments came after the police advisory warned about the scams involving malware that infects Android devices to siphon out funds from CPF accounts and bank accounts on 17 June 2023.

Nine were arrested for suspected links in banking-related phishing scam cases involving malware on 24 June 2023.

Aside from this, authorities recorded more than 700 reports of malware-related scams between January and June 2023.

Losses in these cases amounted to about $8m, and so far they have found that eight of the malware scams involved CPF savings, with an aggregate net loss of $124,000. The investigation is still ongoing on the said cybercrime incident.
