ExxonMobil to cut up to 15% of SG staff
It will also move its office to Jurong by 2027.
Exxon Mobil Corp will cut 10% to 15% of its staff in Singapore and move its corporate office to its Jurong plant by the end of 2027 as part of a global restructuring, the company said via Reuters report.
The move follows Exxon’s plan announced Tuesday to lay off 2,000 workers worldwide, mainly in Canada and the European Union, equal to 3% to 4% of its global workforce.
The report said that Exxon employs about 3,500 people in Singapore, meaning up to 500 jobs could be affected. The company declined to give a specific figure. Employees are expected to be informed by December, according to two people with knowledge of the matter.
Singapore’s Economic Development Board said it would work with Exxon to support affected workers and noted the company would keep a significant presence in manufacturing and trading.
Exxon said its refinery operations will not be impacted. It operates two refining sites in Singapore with a combined capacity of 592,000 barrels per day and recently began production at new facilities producing base stocks from residue fuel.
Staff from Exxon’s HarbourFront office will be moved to new facilities at the Jurong Refinery on Pioneer Road by 2027.
