Non-oil domestic exports feared to moderate in 2H17

The semiconductor segment is seen to show signs of fatigue.

Economists from RHB is envisaging a moderation in non-oil domestic exports growth in the second half of the present year.

According to the economists, this will come as the surge in exports normalises and demand from China slows.

More so, the cyclical demand for semiconductors is showing early signs of fatigue, possibly compounded by delays in the new iPhone launch.

Meanwhile, pharmaceutical shipments are expected to remain weak throughout the year due to expiring patents.

"Also, exporters would have to contend with higher operations costs following a sharp increase in water tariffs," the RHB economists said.
