SGX unveils new thematic equity indices

It’s focused on 5 key sectors.

Singapore Exchange (SGX) announced today the launch of SGX Thematic Indices, a suite of equity indices under SGX Index Edge, its index business.

SGX Thematic Indices is based on sectors that have traditionally featured prominently in the SGX securities market, and contributed significantly to Singapore economy. Namely, these are the Real Estate, Healthcare, Minerals, Oil & Gas, and Maritime & Offshore sectors.

The 11 new indices will help to identify the underlying securities and offer insights into both risk and performance associated with the sectors. Further, the indices will improve the comprehension of investment opportunities and key drivers of returns in these markets.

Targeting the burgeoning exchange traded fund (ETF) market in Asia, the indices will also provide benchmarks linked to key themes in Singapore and encourage the creation of ETF products that are invested in Singapore stocks.
