Chart of the Day: Check out the falling job vacancies in Singapore

Vacancies fell to 49,400 in June.

Employers have been having little trouble filling up their empty positions as job vacancies continued dropping in June, falling to 49,400 in June from 50,000 in March.

According to a report by OCBC, this led the ratio of job vacancies for the first time since June 2012.

“Looking ahead, 2H employment typically tends to pick up, especially into 4Q due to the festive season, so it’s not all doom and gloom,” the report noted.

However, the report noted that employment growth will likely go ahead modestly compared to previous years.

“That said, the Oil & Gas sector, with attendant services, will likely continue to be tepid and be a drag on employment. Ditto for manufacturing. Financial services is also likely to be cautious given slowing momentum,” the report noted.

Meanwhile, the sectors that will continue to see growth will be the Community, Social & Personal Services and Accommodation & Food Services, OCBC noted.
