Daily Markets Briefing: STI up 0.01%
Don’t expect some boosts today.
The Straits Times Index (STI) ended 0.27 points or 0.01% higher to 3291.56, taking the year-to-date performance to +14.26%.
The top active stocks were Singtel, which closed unchanged, Global Logistic, which gained 0.30%, CityDev, which gained 1.29%, DBS, which declined 0.14% and Sembcorp Marine, with a 4.61% advance.
The FTSE ST Mid Cap Index gained 0.39%, while the FTSE ST Small Cap Index declined 0.14%.
According to OCBC Investment Research, US stocks closed lower on Monday, with the Nasdaq ending a nine-day rally as investors found few reasons to push shares deeper into record territory in a thinly traded session.
Six out of 11 S&P 500 industries finished lower. The best performers were Energy, which gained 0.25%, and Information Technology, which gained 0.24%, whilst the worst performers were Health Care, which fell 0.67%, and Industrials, which fell 0.39%.
“The weakness on Wall Street overnight could weigh on local sentiment this morning,” OCBC said.
