More than 9 in 10 Singapore households own the houses they live in: survey
It was highest among Chinese households.
Majority of Singapore households own the houses they live in, as ownership in 2015 stood at 90.8%, up from 87.2% in 2010.
According to the Department of Statistics’ General Household Survey, home ownership was highest among Chinese households at 93.1%, followed by Malay (86.9%) and Indian (84.1%) households.
Meanwhile, over 4 in 5 (80.1%) resident households reside in HDB dwellings.
HDB 4-room flats remained the most popular house type in 2015, nearly 1 in 3 (32%) resident households living in them.
The next most common house type were HDB 5-room flats and executive flats, with almost 1 in 4 (24.1%) resident households living in such flats. Almost 2 in 10 (18.2%) resided in HDB 3-room flats, while only 5.6% lived in 1- and 2-room units.
Further, a little over 1 in 10 (13.9%) resident households resided in condominiums and other apartments. Only 5.6% of Singapore resident households lived in landed properties.
