M1 keeps mum about Liberty Wireless deal despite persistent queries
It’s not too concerned about a new entrant.
M1’s management kept relatively mum about its recently-unveiled deal with mobile virtual network operator Liberty Wireless.
According to Barclays, M1 provided scant details about Liberty although was barraged by questions about the deal during its recent analyst call.
“Management declined to comment much on the deal as Liberty Wireless has yet to launch services but indicated that 1) M1 will benefit from an increase in subscriber base, 2) the deal is likely to contribute wholesale revenue to M1 but stop short of any financial targets and 3) management believes the services offered by Liberty Wireless will be complementary to that from M1 and target a niche customer segment,” Barclays said.
Barclays also noted that M1 seemed unperturbed by the threat of a fourth entrant.
“Management believes it is not enough for the new entrant to only offer cheap pricing; they believe customers also look for network quality and service quality and judge based on the complete experience. Overall, we sense that management is not particularly worried about this potential new entrant at things stand,” Barclays said.
